The Marshall Plan

  1. What was Sputnik?
    First artificial Earth satellite, it was launched by Moscow in 1957 and sparked U.S. fears of Soviet dominance in technology and outer space.

    It led to the creation of NASA and the space race.

The Berlin Wall
  1. What was the purpose of the Berlin Wall?
    To divide Germany and surround Berlin with communist controlled territories
  2. How long did the wall stand?

Cuban Missile Crisis
  1. How long did the Cuban Missile Crisis last?

  2. How did the US learn about the missiles being in Cuba?
    In October 1962, an American U-2 spy plane secretly photographed nuclear missile sites being built by the Soviet Union on the island of Cuba.
  3. How did the Crisis end?
    U.S removed nuclear missiles from Turkey. Soviets removed their missiles from Cuba. US will not invade Cuba and will eventually lift the US naval blockade imposed on Cuba.
